spinning 'round and 'round here we go again
• SAME OLD STUFF NEVER ENDS

So many things, the scent of women's perfume, and the men's cologne tinted the air within the large ballroom of the Malfoy manor. A place that always seemed like a dream to her. With the bright lights of the chandeliers hanging omniously above, as if an earthquake dared to shake them, they'd come crashing to the ground. Many things were fragile in here, but the spinning women, and leading men, it seemed this place was out of a fantasy land. The main part was, no one could really tell who was who, unless you recognized them somehow through the mask, or some went as far as to speak to others in attempt to figure out who was who. It was an endless mind game, many men just asked a random woman to dance, whether they knew each other without masks or not.
The music was lively, keeping pace it seemed with the different styles of dance people were performing. The most usual was the ballroom dance, the man leading the woman, a hand on her hips, their hands intertwined, and the woman's fair hand on the man's shoulder. An intricate dance, though beautiful, many other dances could be performed, but this was a pureblood ball, and behind the masks, it was a whole other person beyond the confinements. These masks - it hid many parts of the person wielding it, her own mask, (which doesn't have butterflies on it), hid her face well, and had a tendril on each side cascading down, though she'd been an expert, and tied the tendrils up with her dark hair that was positioned neatly upon her head, like an animal perched there.
Heels clicked over the floor, as her parents, Viktor and Marissa left her to go speak with other members of the ball, though she had a nagging doubt Marissa was wanting to meet with one of the Malfoys, since they were blood relatives after all. Someway or another, but pushing this to the back of her mind, a hand carefully came up and brushed back a lock of dark hair that had managed to escape, though it didn't look too bad she hoped. A young man she recognized from earlier approached her, his mask still clung to his face nicely, and he inquired under the fox mask, "May I have this dance?" Her heart fluttered like a bird in an oven, and the young woman paused, eyes scoping for someone to rescue her behind the mask, before lips parted open, and replied, "Yes." Might as well.
Legs spun out onto the dance floor, while he led her through a lively dance. She didn't mind, woke her muscles up, after having been speaking with people for awhile. Eyes gleamed, while she spun back in from spinning out, and they bumped their bodies together, her orange dress fanning out as she spun back into him. Breathing softly, she felt a blush climbing up her neck, before he whispered, "I'm Carlisle, m'lady." She paused, and responded, red coloring her cheeks, though she was thankful they were mostly hidden by the matching orange mask, "Audrey, Carlisle." she couldn't help but smile to the dark-haired man, before he bowed softly, and kissed the top of her hand, "It was my pleasure, I may ask for another later."
Feeling a sudden urge to stomp on his foot with her heels, she calmly nodded and responded, keeping her voice restrained, concealing her discomfort, "I shall see you, Carlisle." Audrey immediately stepped away, before she spotted Draco, or so she thought. Smiling in thanks, she paused as a swarm of girls seemed to approach her. Quickly, she checked over her dress, and threw a gentle smile towards him, before her mother approached her, smiling lightly under her white mask, "You look beautiful tonight, Audrey, perhaps, if you find Lucius before we do, bid him hello for us, as well as Draco, will you?" She adjusted her gown, and nodded solemnly, "I shall, Mother, Father."
Viktor looked uncomfortable with all his daughters here. Audrey smiled weakly towards her father, before she then kissed his cheek, "We'll be fine, Father, stop your worrying." He sighed softly, and kissed her forehead, while Marissa half-hugged her, and the two vanished back into the sea of masked faces. Sighing softly, she scanned the unknown masks once more, before looking back to the dance floor, half-tempted to join in another dance, though she remained there for now, and engaged in some various conversations, keeping an eye out for a - hopefully - familiar face.
