ELEANOR PENN ! • KEEP IT UP AND KEEP ON WALKING •• DON'T LOOK BACK OR ELSE YOU'LL GET LOST • • • • • • • • • • Inside the classroom, it was really still. The windows were open, yes, but hardly any movement could be seen within it. The shadows cast by the darker weather outside was sure sign it could start raining eventually, definitely before the end of the day. The lunch bell had just rang, dismissing kids from lunch to their next class. Some people had this class off - but not this room. The office door opened, but from where the students began to file in, they couldn't see anything. The door closed once more, as some early students arrived, they all tensed when a large, lean and gorgeous black panther padded down the stairs. The weather outside seemed to reflect how some kids felt. They seemed a bit slower than usual. That wouldn't be fun for the lesson today. She was planning on having them transform a beetle into a plant, and back again. This was her class that she just wanted to see how they were doing.
The animal licked it lips, as she padded up to her sturdy desk, and leapt up onto it. Lounging on top of the desk, the animal watched people enter from the hallway. She thought to herself silently, vocal chords not allowing her to speak aloud as a human. A mixture of students entered, mostly fourth and fifth years, but from different houses. It was always interesting to see how they intereacted with each other once they were in class. The Gryffindors either sat in the front or back, clustering together as if they could be stronger that way. While the Slytherins selected a place, anywhere they wished to be. The desks were like most others, placed where a student would be with another one, how she wanted it to be.
Claws outstretched as the animal stretched, keenly watching as the time ticked by, they had a few more minutes. Lean muscles worked, before the feline slid from the desk, and down the aisle, students remaining mostly out of its way. She surely hoped so, she'd had an urge to morph, therefore, she did, and planned on changing back a few moments after the bell rang. Tail flicked as she approached her door, and growled towards the lingering students, get to class. Some shuffled away, though some merely eyed the cat, and reluctantly entered upon her flashing her large teeth. Paws reached towards a few students towards their class, most likely Dark Arts, the other class she shared this hall with. Once the sound came, she frowned, noticing Alice was in here.
Not giving any aknowledgement, the large black panther padded back to the front, as pupils talked amongst themselves. Some whispered, others just chatted without regard. A loud growl soon emitted from the panther, its jaws open, regaining the attention of the students. Once she was sure she had all their attention, she gestured towards the beetles in the jars on each of the desks. Another plus in this form, she could hear and see three times better, at least. Allowed her to see pretty much everything going on in her classroom. Leaping gracefully from the desk, the panther morphed in mid-air, a hefty feat, and two heels landed on the hard floor.
Some students' jaws dropped at the sight of their blonde teacher, hair down for once. Brushing it back, she spoke, shifting her cloak and pointing to the beetle jar closest to her, her wand pointed towards it. "Today class, just to see how you are doing, I want you to turn this beetle into a bonsai tree, or at least a plant that's small....all right? After both you and your partner have done that, read over Chapter 9 in your books please." It was one of those days. At least once a week she had them read over the current chapter, make sure they got everything into their skulls. Pacing down the aisles, and made sure they were all doing all right, some others doing better than others. Hovering by some students, she flicked her wand when the plant attacked the nearby book, turning it still. "Easy, Oliver, try not to move your wrist so much." The perplexed boy nodded silently.
Grinning lightly, she headed back to her desk, and watched her class, a small smile on her features. She did enjoy her job - probably one of the few teachers who actually did. How could she not? She was edcuating the future peers and the future of the wizarding world. Granted, Hogwarts wanted them to know purebloods were superior, but she didn't teach that here really. This was a class to learn so they could pass O.W.L.S. and get through Hogwarts with superb skills. Nails drummed softly on the desk, before adding, "You can either read over Chapter nine, or this," she flicked her wand, showing a piece of paper, "Next week, a friend of mine will be coming in. She's also an animagii, but instead of listening to me, you get to listen to how she did it. If you'd like, the papers are here if you want, look over them if you please." the floating papers sat down on her desk poised.

Walking swiftly from the common room into the open, Alice cursed herself. She was going to be late, there was no doubt about it in her mind- she'd slept far too late. It was mid day and she'd thought a quick nap couldn't harm anything, but apparently she'd needed more sleep than she thought and hadn't set her wizarding clock to wake her. When Alice had awoken from her slumber, she'd numbly looked over at clock then screamed, some fellow Ravenclaws dashing in thinking something was amiss.
When they realized what was wrong, they'd scoffed and told her to hurry up; she could still make it if she ran.
And that brought us to her predicament; running through the corridors of Hogwarts hoping to hell she wasn't caught by some psychotic teacher in a bad mood, with a taste for punishing late and running students. Finally heading down the stairs, she hitched her bad higher on her shoulder and nearly tripped twice, shoes making it all the harder to walk as she hadn't tied them correctly. At first, she had worn heels, but then stuck with trainers like the rest of the sensible Ravenclaws; they didn't kill your feet at the end of the day, after all.
Watching for other students, and seeing a few stragglers which brought hope to her, Alice strode by the Dark Arts room and into Transfiguration. Please to see she wasn't late, Alice took her respective spot near the front of the room with most other Ravenclaws. Her partner, normally a Gryffindor, was out sick that day, and so she was blissfully alone. Nobody to explain her rushed entry to, unless of course the teacher asked for it.
Raising her wand to the plant, Alice studied it for a moment, mind racing through charms and things, then flicked her wand while muttering a spell. The plant turned into a ladybug, instead of a beetle, and she pursed her lips before trying again. Back to a plant, this time when she changed it, it formed the features of a Caterpillar. Becoming flustered, she waved her wand without thinking, and it turned into a butterfly, which proceeded to fly from her table. Staring at it, a bit flabbergasted, Alice didn't think to try summoning it back.

ELEANOR PENN ! • KEEP IT UP AND KEEP ON WALKING •• DON'T LOOK BACK OR ELSE YOU'LL GET LOST • • • • • • • • • • Pacing the aisles, Eleanor returned to her desk, as Alice rushed in, obviously almost late. She didn't say anything, but silently gestured for her to take a seat. Eyes shifted back to the rest of the class, watching as about a good half managed to shift the plant and beetle between each form. The teacher approached a pair of Gryffindors, who tensed as she did. The smaller one, Lilly looked up silently, and inquired, "Something wrong, Professor?" Eleanor smiled gently and replied, gently taking Lilly's wrist, "Don't flick your wrist so much, that might be why it's not working as easy as it should." she let Lilly utter the encantation, while the teacher moved her arm. The bonzai plent soon shrunk, and a beetle was crawling around in the glass. Capping it, Penn smiled lightly, "There you are."
Clicking back to the front of the class, some people were laughing, and she turned, just as a butterfly took off into the air. Sighing softly, she couldn't help but smile weakly, then whipped out her wand, and soon, the butterfly landed back onto the desk it had come from. Alice's. Seeing she was without a partner, she leaned lightly on the desk, while the butterfly crawled along the desk, and back into the glass jar. Professor Penn spoke, "Try not to force it, Miss Starling." she nodded solemnly, and passed out the papers for her friend to come in next week. Some background information on becoming an Animagus. A student raised their hand in the back, Penn inquired, leaning lightly against her desk, "Yes, Mister Gregory?" The dark-haired student paused, then inquired, "How long does it take to become an animagus?"
The blonde paused and replied, as a husky-wolf mix padded from her office, and lied down under her desk, beady eyes watching the class. Grinning weakly, she replied, brushing back her hair, getting enjoyment out of this, she always did when sharing information, passing it onto the next generation of teachers and of the wizarding community. "It depends on the wizard, Mister Gregory, it's a long process and can take years to perfect. You must register with the Ministry though, if you wish to become one." He nodded, looking curiously interested, while Penn glanced around the class, the large husky-wolf lifted his head and his hackles raised slightly, bristling.
"Do you pick your animal?" Unable to hide a smile now, Penn tapped the air with her wand, and the plants and beetles floated into the air, then landed on a neat line on her desk. Running a hand over them quickly, her wand in it, they all turned back into bonzai plants, before she replied, "No." she knew that was what turned most people away, that they couldn't choose their animal. But - you just couldn't, and they would need to get over that. That was why most of the people who were aiming to become one, an animagus stopped, once they figured out they wouldn't turn into a wolf, or what-ever it was that they wanted to be. "The animal is based off," she said, glancing to Alice, "Your personality at the time you perform the spell." she nodded solemnly.
"All right students, take out your books. At the end, the last ten minutes or so, will be free time." she stated, books distributing themselves from the counter by the open windows, the sunlight pouring in. Frowning lightly, Penn looked to them, and checked the time, then questioned, "Do you wish to carry on this class outside?" she arched an eyebrow, while most of the kids nodded, she grinned weakly, and headed to her window, then snapped her fingers upon reaching it. She'd like to take them outside, as long as they didn't try and get away - skip class. The wolf-dog under her desk snaked out and wagged his tail to the students. "Major..." she murmured, and the intelligent animal padded to her side, Penn turned to her students, "Head out to the courtyard right outside this hall, and take your stuff, in case we don't come back in."

Pursing her lips when the teacher reprimanded her in an off-hand way, or at least that was how Alice saw it, the girl tapped her fingers on the desk. She daren't attempt spelling the creature with the eyes of the class on her, as they were now, and so she waited for the excitement of her failing to die down, and for the eyes to train on new targets. It didn't take too long, as the teacher began passing out papers the conventional way instead of spelling them around.
Alice took up her own, casually going over it and recognizing it as something the teacher had given to her a day or two beforehand, placing it down and attempting to spell the beetle again. "idiot creature ... " she grumbled, as the thing turned into a small plant as she had been instructed to do by the teacher. It hadn't been too hard, when Alice was less flustered and knew how to go about it from studying the boy who sat in the next row over from her. In fact, she found it quite simple. Scowling at the beetle, which was actually now a small bonsai tree, she rested her chin in the palm of her hand, arm bent at a ninety degree angle and her elbow on the oak wood desk.
As the conversation turned to that of Animagi, Alice raised her head up, actually interested for once in what the kids had to say. She snorted silently, so that only she heard herself do so, when he asked about choosing your animal. If you were an Animagi, sir, it would probably be a sloth for all your intelligence. The words came only in her mind, as Alice wasn't so rude as to speak them aloud even when she knew the child wouldn't dare talk back to her in a room with mostly Ravenclaws at the moment, and a rather moody looking Alice Starling.
She was known for waiting until you least expected it, and then getting you back for any sort of rebellion against her obviously far superior self.
Alice already knew her animal would be a cat of some sort; perhaps a bold lioness. It was either that, or a bird of prey. Such as an eagle, or a falcon. Perhaps even a raven. Of course, in all reality, Alice knew nothing about her animal, she simply bluffed that she did. After all- it was just common sense that she would have an animal that reflected her inner strength and intelligence! She would only be able to transform into an animal that showed a truly rare creature in it's truest form.
When the teacher suggested they get up and go outside, Alice stood abruptly with the rest of the class and picked her things up, following the flood of students into the courtyard.

ELEANOR PENN ! • KEEP IT UP AND KEEP ON WALKING •• DON'T LOOK BACK OR ELSE YOU'LL GET LOST • • • • • • • • • • Carefully watching the pupils, the large dog padded around the outside of the line, hackles bristling, as he guarded one of the three entrances to the courtyard. Tan fingers lifted to a pink mouth, as the blonde Professor whistled shrilly. A few moments later, she smiled softly as a white bird descended rapidly from the sky. White wings buffeted the air, as it slowed itself, and soon, the magnificent, white creature clicked its beak, and the Professor grinned softly as her students all selected their spot on the grass, or a rock or bench, and read the chapter. Petting the silky feathers of the Snowy Owl, Eleanor murmured, "Keep an eye on them for me, Yuna." The dark-yellow-eyed owl bobbed her head a few times, and shifted between both of her feet on the stone perch at the entrance, while the dog-wolf mix made himself comfortable at another entrance.
Wand waved as a simple spell was placed on the other entrance no animal, or herself was guarding. It wouldn't harm the student, it was designed so if someone left the courtyard, a burst of light would happen, momentarily blinding them, though nothing too bad, it would just warn her as well. Lips pursed, as she sat down, showing a spell to the kids, changing a tree into an animal. Lifting her wand, Eleanor pointed to a large oak, and flicked it, muttering the encantation. Soon, the tree shrunk, and a horse appeared in its place. Smiling softly, the Professor spoke, approaching the beast, which nickered gently, and nuzzled her outstretched hand, "See, like every other horse, no matter where it came from, they always like gentle hands."
A few students watched, as soon, the horse's legs rooted themselves back into the ground, and it disappeared, bark reappearing, as well as leaves. The tree returned, just how it had been before, no one could tell - unless they used a tracing spell on it to know it had been turned into a horse. Tucking her wand away, Professor Penn lifted her head as Major barked. Heads turned, while the dog-wolf mix turned as a student was heading down the hall. Frowning lightly, she approached the counter, one could say, a waist-height wall between her and the hall. "Excuse me, shouldn't you be in class?" she stated, brows knitting together slightly.
The cloaked-student held up a hand-written note from the Dark Arts teacher, "Just delievered somethin'." Eleanor narrowed her eyes, though waves the student on. Glancing to Alice, she cast a soft smile towards the young student, before her attention was taken elsewhere when another student had accidentally taken off one of his friends' ears. The boy was screaming from the thought, his ear lying on the ground, though thankfully no blood was being spilled. Quickly sending him to the nurse to have her replace it, she could have done it, but she'd need to reconnect many things. Checking where they were in their books, she nodded, noticing how some were farther than others, "For those of you who will be taking the higher Transfiguration class next year, we won't use books as much, but to use our spells for more....practical things. And also a field trip or two to the Ministry of Magic, with permission slips of course."

It smelled like dirt and wet grass, Alice relishing the fresh scent of spring. Walking towards a group of ravenclaws, Alice took her respective spot off to the side. Not close enough so that they assumed she wishes to be included in their frivolous conversations, but not so far enough that others would think she was a "loner" and thus more vulnerable than the others. Alice knew that there was strength in numbers, and so would always associate herself with the Ravenclaws and sit with them, however she would never really be one of them completely.
The well worn book was opened to the specified chapter, and Alice's eyes quickly scanned the words and pages. She was always the first to be done. She loved reading and did so quite frequently. In fact, Alice was on a first name basis with all of the librarians, and took pride in the fact that she could polish off four books a week- a feat unmatched by anybody that she knew. Most were too weighed down with homework and extra credit papers. Alice took on the same amount of work, however she didn't put quite as much effort into it. That wans't to say that she didn't get a perfect grade like all the others- she just didn't slave over things if she knew she didn't have to. Alice wasn't lazy, she just didn't see the point of putting in extra effort.
To her, it was always "put in the least amount of work for the best possible outcome", and she had a feeling she'd always work by that modo.
The teacher's dog was laying near one of the exits, and it made Alice smile. The beast seemed to follow the teacher absoloutely everywhere. He was a beautiful example of what a dog should look like, and much different than what she had seen at the other Pureblood's estates. The other purebloods only kept sight hounds, other variations of hunting dogs. Some of the women kept prim little pooches, but aside from that, there was no need for any other type of dog.
Looking up, Alice noted a confrontation beginning ot arise between students. It was quickly quieted by another student stepping between and telling them to knock it off, but Alice knew it could have been quite worse.
OOC; I'm thinking about inviting somebody else in, to cause trouble with Alice ... what do you think?

ELEANOR PENN ! • KEEP IT UP AND KEEP ON WALKING •• DON'T LOOK BACK OR ELSE YOU'LL GET LOST • • • • • • • • • • As she hovered by various students, eyes noted how the houses sat separate from one another. Slytherins with the Slytherins, then the Ravenclaws, Hufflepuffs and finally the Gryffindors. A soft sigh escaped her lips - before all this, back when she had been a student here at Hogwarts, it didn't matter who was who, or what kind of clothes you wore, it was mainly whether you were nice or no. She was just glad she'd gotten out of here before the big show-down between the Dark Lord and Harry Potter. Wrinkling her nose at that thought, the blonde brushed it aside, as Major and Yuna shifted well, before she noticed a few students pick on a Gryffindor. Clicking her tongue, she stepped between the Slytherins, and stated, her voice harsh, how it always was in class, "Back to your reading, Miss Laurant and Mister Krun."
The two Slytherins looked like they were defeated, though she noticed in their eyes how they were determined. Holding up a finger, she added, "If I see you two doing it again, there will be detention." Miss Laurant snarled, her blonde hair gleaming like Professor Penn's, "Professor! She was giving me looks!" Turning to the Gryffindor who was practically ready to faint, Eleanor added to the three, "No more of this from any of you. Back to reading." They all did, though the two Slytherins slunk away more from the Gryffindor area. Shaking her head, Professor Penn eyed a pair of students who got each other ruffled up. Groaning, she made her way over there, though another student soon broke it up.
Lips pursed in mild annoyance, though no words were vocalized, as her eyes landed on Alice, who was already finished. Grinning softly to the Ravenclaw, she then made an announcement to the class, "If I see another fight between any of you, we won't be coming back outside, since you can't seem to handle it." Some groaned, but nothing else much was muttered. Professor Penn looked to notice Major, the wolf-dog mix standing, having seen Alice look to him - which he usually took as an invitation to say hi. Thick, bushy tail wagging, the large dog approached the Ravenclaw, and whined playfully, Eleanor shook her head, noticing the entrance was unguarded, though there were only Gryffindors and Ravenclaws near it.
She shouldn't worry too much. After Major licked Alice lightly, he headed back to where he was supposed to be. Professor Penn headed to Alice, and spoke, "Miss, Starling," she greeted her gently, letting a weak smile appear on her lips, though she didn't dare let any other students see it, "Could you run back into my classroom, and grab the book on the desk in there? It's gold-binded, and black cover, just go through that exit." she gestured to the one with Major, who had lied down, ears pricked forwards, listening to the words his owner spoke. Penn didn't like to think she owned him, Major was more of a friend than a pet. Nodding, she noticed a student glare, and Eleanor spoke, "She gets to, because she already read the chapter." she explained, before turning to Alice, and giving her a reassuring nod.
"When Miss Starling returns, I want you all to pair up, and quiz each other on the encantations and laws of Transfiguration. After that, free time." students beamed at this prospect, and Professor Penn smiled weakly to herself. The book Alice was getting, she was planning on giving it to her after class, it went more in-depth on Transfiguration, if she wanted to read it. She trusted her, along with a few other students, even some from Slytherin, but they just took this class because they liked it, or just needed it for NEWTS and OWLS. Pursing her lips lightly, Penn sat on the hard counter-like wall between the courtyard and hall, as Yuna clicked her beak at the other entrance, Major quiet while Alice slunk by, he growled lightly towards any other student without permission who attempted to get past.
