Hello everyone! As I'm sure you're aware, Filth is currently undergoing a bit of a...reawakening. So, to help this go as smoothly and as well as it can, I was hoping that some of you have some thoughts on how to make this site the best it can be, and get our name back out there! Of course, things like advertising we all know about (and I hope we've all done at some point!!) but if there's any brainwaves, feel free to post them here  Jet |

I agree with advertising; when should we start doing that again? After the activity check runs its course or before?
In all honesty, what attracted me to this site so long ago was the skin (as well as the plot). I don't know if it is doing this on anyone else's monitor, but the left section (not the sidebar, but the titles for the actual boards) is really compressed and makes the forum really long... if that's deliberate that's fine, I just wanted to check. It's still an enticing looking site though...
Anything I could really suggest cannot happen until the activity check is finished (such as clearing out inactive characters), but the plot as of right now (as described in the rules section, v1?) is a good place to start again. I am not sure whether if would be better, once the activity check is finished, to basically start from scratch with characters.
For example, if Hermione and Bellatrix met and fought and Bellatrix is no longer being played, do we say that never happened or that Bellatrix 'vanished' and that her next player would be told that she had an encounter with Hermione?
There are other gimmicks I have seen with other forums (such as secrets/fortunes to determine personalities, random events dictated by admins, have very strict social classes)... the sort of 'scattered' attacks against impurities (and resistance against those) has been... well... scattered. Maybe having the option to streamline those (such as having a Death Eater squad whose job it is to make impurity character's lives difficult and a developing of a resistance force) would attract people? Then again... what was unique about this forum was that you could have have the option of not just being good or evil...
I'll probably have more to say later... but I feel as if the biggest thing we can do now is advertise as soon as possible (maybe making a new advertisement too). Canons with players can still be restricted, but it's critical to get fresh blood in to see what types of characters are popular and to ride the post-last Harry Potter movie popularity wave : ).

I would say after the activity check, so we know how many returning characters we have, and how many canons are becoming available once more.
It is part of the coding for the skin. I can see what you mean about it making the forum seem stretched and very long, so I will have a discussion with Serpentina (when our time zones allow) and see what she says (I don't play with the forum skins...bad things happen - and she created it!!)
I'm not sure what is going to happen with the "previous" site versus the "reawakened" site. It'd be nice to keep as many threads and situations from the previous incarnation as canon as possible...however, this will be another matter the admin team will need to discuss...as some new members may be put off by having so much backstory already in place that they themselves did not create. To be honest, the most straightforward answer I could give to that would be "watch this space."
I do remember (vaguely) there being discussions about whole school events and balls and things like that, but sadly the interest in the site waned and that never came to fruition. I, personally (of course, all of this is my personal opinion, and not that of the admin as a whole (I better put this disclaimer in, I guess!!)) would be loathed to put in a system of personality trait determining etc. as that then takes some of the character creation (and in my opinion, one of the main parts of character creation) out of the hands of the player. I jointly run a roleplaying group in my area, and we had a new person who wanted to run a game, and basically told me the outline my character had to fit in. That didn't sit well with me, as I felt the character was no longer really mine...it was theirs, and I was simply someone put in the role of speaking for it. So...yeah...
With regard to the Death Eater Squad, we could definitely add in a sub-forum for those "chosen few" and almost have a "mafia vs innocents" kinda sub-plot. Of course, that would mean we would have to have a sub-forum for those who were part of the "resistance"...or it could simply be a sub-forum for those the Death Eaters hate... so the muggleborns/halfbloods/the halfbreeds that AREN'T on Voldemort's side etc. I think that would have to be run as a mini-side-game though, as that would probably create many character deaths,and some people (as you rightly say) prefer to stay in the grey area - and not just be good or bad.
We...or should I say "I" had a idea of adding in Male of the Month, Female of the Month, Couple of the Month, Follower of the Month, Resistant of the Month etc. Of course, that would require a high level of activity, but their names and a link to their profile could be put (maybe - I need to talk to Serpentina about this!!) under our staff header in the sideboard, in their own little box. On a previous site I was on, the admins also did mini interviews with the roleplayer about their interests and anecdotes, and about what they viewed their character's motives and personality to be like, which then got added into the news forums.
Talking about news forums - I'm thinking that maybe we should have a section of the Announcement board as the "Daily Prophet" sub-board - where all in character news goes. One of the admins could oversee it with a specific "Daily Prophet" account, and add in things of plot interest, and people could PM the Daily Prophet account with any in character things they thought would be good to publicise - the Death Eaters could use this to their advantage if they were really smart. It could also be used to put in funny quotes people had around the site IC, just for giggles.
I think that's all I have to say - what do people think?

Hm... I think something vaguely along the lines of that 'mini sub plot' discussed here... almost happened back when the site had more members, although having it be organized would help get members involved. Because, in all honesty, having Hermione just get in battles and captured by herself is all she can much do : )
I hadn't heard of 'Member of the Month' and other categories having interviews with the players... when this place gets more active, that would be awesome!
ooo... already saw the Daily Prophet account on here this morning : D. Sounds fantastic!
Anyone else have any ideas/thoughts? I know there are more of you out there -stares-
