-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SEE THE LIGHTS, SEE THE PARTY, THE BALLGOWNSI SEE YOU MAKE YOUR WAY THROUGH THE CROWD--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps the party was more than she had anticipated it to be. Maybe she'd get some dirt after all. After all, it was a party in which vampires apparently took up some of the populace. All that was missing was someone to bolt up the doors so that the vampires could reign supreme and massacre the unsuspecting townsfolk. It was a melodrama waiting to happen. And where would Astoria be? Writing everything down in delicious detail to report to the surviving unsuspecting townsfolk to read and be entertained with. Oh, Astoria. Always looking out for others' pleasure and entertainment and never her own. Perhaps it was that satisfaction that gave her her inspiration to write what she wrote. Astoria was a powerful woman and a woman who got what she wanted whatever the cost and if she wanted a story, she'd get it somehow. She had ways of making headlines. Her name wasn't Story for nothing.
If Lucius and Draco thought that their names and their prestige protected them from a woman's scorn, they were wrong for Astoria was clever enough to know when to strike. Of course she wouldn't strike now, not when they were at the top of their game. She would never strike iron when it's cold for it always breaks when it's hot. And maybe Angelique would be useful enough to help her with her devious plans. This ball may just be their downfall but never her own. Astoria never lost and if she did lose, she'd find a way to win it back. "I doubt that. And anyway, the only thing to bite round here is food." said Lucius, his tone cold, deadly and smooth like liquid velvet. "Well aren't we all just pieces of meat and buckets of blood? How different are we from the the pasture that we devour ourselves?" she retorted, her tone just as deadly. "Anyway, if you go way back, you should have put aside your differences by now, if you had any. All I'm saying is that was a bit of a formal greeting, ladies." added Lucius.
"I surely hope we have." said Angelique, showing a small smile that showed her teeth. Astoria's eyes glanced quickly at the fangs that she was hiding for she knew where they were. She let out a laugh, the sound of tinkling bells and chimes, yet with an edge of something sinister in her cackle. "But of course," she said, her tone alluring. "What are we all but friends and neighbors?" she added. She was smiling wickedly, her eyes narrow and gleaming with ecstasy. "Excuse me, ladies." said Lucius, to go try to talk to someone of whom Astoria held no interest in. "How do you like writing? I've read some of your stories and such, I like them." said Angelique, her voice still the same as when Astoria remembered her. She was free to show her teeth now, not afraid of showing Astoria her full set of teeth for Story knew the truth, as she always did. "Writing... It's wonderful." she said sincerely. It was true. Writing the words of which millions listened to and believed in.
"As they say, words are more powerful than the sword and being able to destroy or create with a single sentence is more than satisfactory." she said, smiling back at her. "The years haven't changed you much, has it?" she added, her sapphire blue eyes meeting Angel's as if to pierce them and her smile also added to her persuasion. If Astoria wanted to know something, she'd know about it eventually. Angelique was still the girl she knew all those years ago. The girl whom she trusted and treated as though they were sisters by blood. And yet to find out that she was hiding something from her, hiding something dark and dreary. Even after all they've been through, she left Astoria alone to her own devices, not knowing what to do or if she could trust anyone again. Like she said, Astoria figures that the years haven't changed Angelique much. And even though almost everything has been said and done and it would be immature so as to hold school girl grudges, she wasn't known to both forgive and forget.

"Hailey Wood. Though I'm afraid your introduction is wasted, I already know who you are." Lucius smirked at this. The fiery little mix, he was warming to her already. Skull to the side a little at these words, Lucius couldn't help but to raise an eyebrow, but still he said nothing, only nodding slightly in her direction. After all, everyone knew who he was now. His mind momentarily lapsed into a haze of memories.
It was before the Death Eaters had been called into existence and he was still rich and powerful. It was just they way he walked through each and every corridor like he owned it, no-one would challenge him, his humor and intelligence far beyond everyone else's, in his opinion. Of course, these days he felt on top of the world. He was on the winning side, nothing else mattered now. He could really do as he pleased without consequence.
Leaning on his cane slightly, his finger played and stroked the sharp silver teeth of the snake, his thumb played over the glaring emerald eyes. Inside his cane was his wand, or was it. No-one apart from him knew now. Indeed he had got his wand back and never again would he give it to anyone. Fury flashed in his eyes briefly and surged his body with adrenalin as he remember his humiliation with Voldemort. Unknowingly, a growl was pulled softly from his throat.
"I must admit, your paintings are some of the most exquisite pieces I've ever seen." His attention was brought back to the beautiful vixen in front of him, and indeed, she was lovely. His eyes roved lazily over the painting and then back to Hailey. Indeed, the are exquisite, my dear. he drawled, his customary smirk still in place. Arching his neck and standing straighter, Lucius gazed down on Hailey, his voice slightly gentler now.
Not the best, I must admit, some of the finer portraits and sculptures are deeper inside the Manor. he paused and swept his gaze around the room in which they were in, lingering on the figure of Astoria and then quickly sweeping back to Hailey. If you would like, after the Ball, you could take a look. But only if it would be convenient for yourself of course. Another sip of wine and his tongue ghosted over his lips to remove the faint colour.

Hailey nodded as he spoke, not quite registering what he was proposing. It took a moment for her to realize, casting her gaze back over to the man who was now standing taller, that he was suggesting she stay later than need be. Art not being that much of an importance to her, she could care less, but this was no ordinary man who was offering. Without really knowing what he could be thinking, she could only smirk slightly and nod gratefully in his direction. "I wouldn't want to impose on your already gracious intentions. The ball is really more than enough." she said finally. There really was no need for her to stay later than she needed or wanted to. She even surprised herself by coming to the ball in the first place. So with that in mind, she gazed over in the direction that Lucius had looked. She spotted a woman, maybe a little taller than herself, talking to someone else animatedly. Hailey could only shake her head and turn to look up at another painting. Not knowing who the woman was, she didn't feel it was necessary to know his reasons for looking, so it was out of her mind before she even took another breath.
"Though I am surprised you find the time to collect such lovely pieces. You must multi-task." she added. It was indeed a shock that he had all these pieces, though why she was rambling about art she didn't give a second thought. Small talk was something that she despised, though it came easy for her. Besides, what could she find to talk about that would interest Lucius Malfoy anyway? But then again, why should she care? And, in thought, she didn't care. He came over to her anyway, so she figured she could leave all the 'small talk' to him. That sounded like a plan worth putting into action.

A deep chuckle from the caverns of his strong chest. Lucius grinned at the answer, at least this lass knew what she wanted, even if it wasn't him. He nodded in response to the answer. His head went back slightly, tresses flowing over his shoulders and whipping up at times. Point made, don't worry about it, m'dear.
"Though I am surprised you find the time to collect such lovely pieces. You must multi-task." Another deep chuckle at this comment. The answer was ready on his tongue, in his mind and it flowed out without a second thought. My dear, women are not the only one who can multi-task. Actually, on that note, some of the painting were done by me. He nodded to the picture of a black and white draft horse rearing up, about to pound the skull of snarling Dobermann into the ground. The background was something like a heaven vs hell, yin and yang scene. It was an impressive piece and rather huge as well. Lucius said no more about it but pride glinted in those stone grey eyes. Another glance at Astoria and Angel, he couldn't help but narrow his eyes and the other blond whilst lifting the wine up to his lips and finishing it, placing it smoothly on a tray as a butler walked past. Indeed, his son had done an awsome job of hosting this Ball. Not the first time he had been impressed by him either. But Astoria still held his mind attention, her plan was a bad one and it was tempting to kick her out, but that would only make him look like the idiot. He snorted lightly and turned back to Hailey.

A smile graced her face suddenly as she looked up to the painting of the rearing horse. She chuckled lightly and brushed some hair behind her neck. "A Malfoy that has more than one talent, I must say I'm impressed." Hailey had to keep herself calm around Lucius. It wasn't out of the ordinary for these Malfoy's to charm their prey to no end. She had almost fallen for it once with Draco, his father wasn't going to do her in. Or she was going to attempt to keep it like that anyway. She was quickly understanding where Draco had learned it all, and although he was married, he was still desirable to many women. Including her. But she pushed that thought away quickly when the word 'married' flashed in her head. That was an issue she didn't want to deal with. Her thoughts went back to that small encounter with the newly appointed potions master. She had almost let herself cave. Just one little indulgence. Well, she certainly smacked herself in the face for that thought.
Sighing, she turned her head back towards Lucius, catching him looking across the room. Curiosity getting the better of her, she studied his face carefully. "Is something wrong? I can't help but notice you glancing at a particular guest and wonder if you're waiting to swoop or if I'm too boring for you." she said, throwing a small joke in there. Though, he could easily flip it around and agree with her. Would that throw her off or what? But she half expected it, this was Malfoy Senior, anything could come out of this ones mouth. But something did seem slightly off about his demeanor, as if he just wasn't himself. He could hide it well, but Hailey wasn't naive. She turned her entire body towards him slowly and leaned slightly on the wall, waiting for his answer.

"A Malfoy that has more than one talent, I must say I'm impressed."
He had to, he just had to. Lucius let out a snorting laugh. It was impossible to hold it in any longer. The laugh ended quickly but replaced by a dazzling smile of genuine humor. Now that was rare. His looked upon Hailey with a sort of tender smirk but then his attention was draw to the two ladies once more as her lyrics drew his attention back to their existence. His smile faded and his own lyrics became clipped and dismissive. Was there really a reason to keep on focusing on the one who wanted his downfall. Maybe there was, but not now there wasn't. He turned he back on them fully again, swapping his empty Rose wine glass for a full Red one and taking a sip, lips once more being stained with the crimson liquor. Allowing his tongue to slide out and wipe the remaining taste from his kissers and retreat again, facing Hailey once more, some of his mirth returned.
Indeed, you'll find that I can do alot more as well. But as for those two, he motioned to Astoria and Angel, as he now thought of her. They don't matter at the moment, Astoria is only here to attempt to tear my family to the ground. Although it will be her down and out if she tried hard enough. The last statement was muttered darkly and his eyes narrowed once more but his expression once more molded itself into the essence of pure blood aura and calmness as he gazed upon the smaller femme next to him. A slightly wind blew through the hallway, causing his hair to flicker and dance backwards at its' touch and caress. Tilting his head to see the quickest way out, he voiced an invitation to Hailey.
Would you care to join me outside for a while, Hailey? It can't be too cold out there.
Eyes returned to her face once more, her face not her form and he kept eye contact with her. Not strong eye contact, but one to show he was attentive to her every word but not whim. Indeed she had aroused his curiosity and as they say...Curiosity killed the cat...the be Wizard was fine.

Watching him with deliberate attention, she nodded as she spoke. She'd been there before. In fact, it wasn't too long ago. But she wasn't about to bring up the fact that it was his son that was so...un-fond of her. Draco was the exact reason that she had opted not to attend tonight, but she wasn't one to be herded away by a threat. And said threat hadn't even showed it's face. So much to her benefit. "Well, I'll be interested to see exactly what that is." she retorted sharply. Hailey was enjoying the conversation. He seemed much easier to talk too than some of the other snobby people in the room. She had always wondered why people acted the way they did. Even to their own kind. She could care less when it came to Impures and Muggleborns, but when Pures acted out against Pures? Something was wrong there. Unless they were traitors. Like her parents. But she shook her head and quickly grabbed a wine glass. She didn't need the thoughts of them right now.
Hailey followed his gaze outside and smiled when she looked back to see him staring at her. Her. Not her...body. Which was a refreshing change, she had to admit. She nodded slightly and looked back up to some of the paintings. "I'm sure I could handle that, Mr. Malfoy." She quickly shuddered at the use of his surname, but knew it was proper and she was in no position to use his first name unless instructed otherwise. They may have been getting along, but she wasn't stupid. If she said the wrong thing, he could have her head quicker than lightning. And that was a chance she wasn't going to take.

Lucius lifted his regal skull, a smirk playing about his sculptured lips as he nodded approvingly at her. A waiter walked past with an array of sweet-meats on a tray, piled high in a triangle shape and without even glancing at the tray, Lucius plucked on deftly from the pile, without upsetting it, and popped it into his mouth. Mmm, pomegranate flavour. He moved his head in an amused fashion, feeling his canines sinking through the flesh of the sweet and demolishing it easily. His tongue swiped through his closed mouth, cleaning his teeth of sweet debree.
Please, my dear, Lucius will suffice for this time. he drawled at her, his grey eyes sparkling in the flickering lights. He stepped forward, past her and kept his eyes on her for the smallest of second before facing forward and seeming to glide over the floor. One glance and people parted for him, watching where they trod. A regal smirk from the older Malfoy, blond tresses flickering in colour, from light gold to white, depending on how the light caught him. He glanced back over his shoulder and gave what he thought would be an encouraging smirk to Hailey. He was a dark angel, but whether he was a regular or not, they would soon find out.
Music drifted from the dance hall to his sharp ears as he walked. Lucius felt his body respond to the music and his walk became more rhythmic, physique almost swayed to the beat. He turned and side stepped a few times before turning and walking backwards a few paces and stopped, waiting for Hailey to follow his example and walk out with him. The crowds of people still jostled but not in the space of which he had walked. At least he still commanded a few things around here. The music changed again and a few other lyrics drifted out to him. The sound was of a smooth techno dance genre:
What's going on ? Could this be my understanding It's not your fault I was being too demanding I must admit it's my pride that made me distant All because I hoped that you'd be someone different There's not much I know about you Fear will always make you blind But the answer is in clear view It's amazing what you'll find face to face
I turned away because I thought you were the problem Tried to forget until I hit the bottom But when I faced you in my blank confusion I realized you weren't wrong, it was a mere illusion
It really didn't make sense Just to leave this unresolved It's not hard to go the distance when you finally get involved face to face
One eyebrow raised and the customary smirk returned to his beautiful features as the music effected his behavior.
[[ Sorry I haven't replied for ages, Hai. And yes, this is Daft Punk I'm using ]]

Hailey didn't notice the waiter pass by, but she did happen to catch the swift movement in which Lucius had grabbed a piece of food and ate it. She smiled slightly when he allowed her to call him Lucius and took a small calming breath. Now she wouldn't get in trouble in case his name did happen to slip out of her mouth. She took a small sip of her wine as he made his way outside, people parting in both ways. He still had that small ring of command and she admired that much in him. But as far as his personality went, she couldn't judge too much. They were getting along, but for how much longer? She didn't want to think of it ending so quickly.
She smiled and laughed slightly as he danced his way farther outside and gracefully followed. "Well, aren't we graceful." Now she wasn't beginning to care if he was married or not. Any time that she could get with this man, she would take. He seemed to be a small surprise everywhere. The only thing that she was afraid of was succumbing. Hailey cocked her head to the side as the music changed and listened intently to the lyrics. They seemed oddly fitting for the moment. Hailey glanced to him before she turned her back to him slightly, moving over to the railing on the balcony and leaning over it slightly. Lucius Malfoy certainly knew how to make his home look appealing. Peacocks? Who the hell had peacocks? She laughed at the sight of them and turned back, facing him, leaning back on the railing. Losing sight of him wasn't a good idea.

The laugh received a raised eyebrow from Lucius and he tilted his head to peer at the peacocks strutting around the grounds. He breathed out lightly and his eyes flicked towards the reclining figure of Hailey, who still had a smile on her face. And what a smile wit was too, her face seemed to light up and she seemed mellow and strong at the same time. An interesting combination, and Lucius only thought in the term "interesting". He let a smirk grace his featured before turning it into a barely visible half-smile but he let the humor shine through in his voice.
This isn't what you think Hailey," he drawled. Nothing you just saw then existed. I did not just dance part-way down the hall, and you did not just laugh at my peacoaks... Gah! Merlin, that sounded bad! He thought to himself and chuckled slightly. Beckoning again with his hand, he turned away and strode with a medium speed and checking over his shoulder. His tresses sometimes blocked part of his face so he hand to flick his head back, stallion-like, to keep her in his view.
Once more he turned and waited for her, his patience infinite with her, unlike how he was with others. But now from this distance, he allowed himself to look over her body, a privilege he had not allowed himself before, for reasons of courtesy. He liked what he saw but he didn't think too deeply into the topic, instead his mind wandered to how she had been invited. Did she know Draco, and if she did know him, what sort of relationship had they had, a good or bad one? He hoped good, since his son hadn't exactly been the best behaved sort of lad lately.

She watched him with a small smile and followed him as he continued to walk forward. Waiting for a moment, as if deciding to follow him, she looked back to the peacocks on the ground. Those were not an illusion. Finally, she allowed herself to straightened and walk towards him. "I do believe you are trying to trick me. It won't work." she said with a small wisp of humor in her voice. He seemed to be warming to her. Which could be a good thing...or it could be a bad thing. She was hoping for the first. Hailey sighed as she looked back over to the vast amount of land he had. How did someone acquire this much wealth? She barely got enough to pay for her home. But her parent's pity money did help a bit. Not like she would conform to them any time soon.
"So where is the dear host of this party?" She found it fitting to ask, since her relationship with Draco was confusing and unattractive. She was eager to hear what Lucius had to say about him. Hailey knew just as well as everyone else that Draco had been getting himself into a lot of trouble lately. He had not been making himself look good in the public eye. All the more reason for Hailey to wonder.
ooc - muse died... =[
